One of the earliest National (and DC’s) Parks, this 16 acre park is federally owned and accessed via R St at 30th Street NW. It has playing fields, a playground, tennis courts, and miles of wonderful hiking trails—it’s also a popular sledding hill on snow days! The friends of Montrose Park are always welcoming new neighbors to volunteer and donate as well as attend their festive events!

This historically significant estate, along with its gardens, was donated to Harvard University and is known for its special collections of Byzantine and pre-Columbian art. There are guided tours, a museum shop—and a library for research.

Designed by landscaper, Beatrix Farrand, Dumbarton Oaks is one of the most significant gardens in the country.

This circa 1799 federal manse now serves as a national headquarters for the National Society of The Colonial Dames of America (NSCDA) and serves as a museum and stately gathering space for events—many of which are open to the public.

Recently developed and renovated, this gem of Georgetown provides 10 acres of an open park on the Potomac River with ice skating (in the winter) and lovely walking paths along the waterfront restaurants and the down the C&O Canal. Fundraising is underway for more enhancements!

Since 1930, St. John’s Episcopal Church has organized and hosted the Georgetown House Tour every spring to raise funds for ministry and outreach.

Each year the Georgetown House Tour features a number of Georgetown’s most beautiful homes within easy walking distance.

In 1924, the Georgetown Garden Club was formed to stimulate interest in gardening, preserve and protect native birds and plants, promote conservation and environmental planning, and to beautify Georgetown as far as possible.

Advisory Neighborhood Commission is a very helpful resource for all DC residents and Georgetown are located in Ward 2. Their main job is to be their neighborhood’s official voice in advising the District government (and Federal agencies) on things that affect their neighborhoods. This includes zoning, streets, recreation, education, social services, sanitation, safety, budget and health services. They meet frequently and meetings are open to the public.

There are two farmer’s markets in Georgetown: one on Wednesday afternoons (3/31-10/31) in Rose Park; and another year round one Saturdays in the Hardy School parking lot (across from the Safeway on Wisconsin Ave.).

The friends of Book Hill Park was established in 2000 to renovate and refurbish this historic cornerstone at the top of Georgetown with sweeping gardens and stairs leading to the shops of Book Hill Park. An annual doggie parade is among the festive fundraisers they conduct!

Georgetown Heritage is a nonprofit organization working to revitalize, activate, and interpret the National Park Service assets in Georgetown.  Our first priority is to restore the mile-long section of the C&O Canal that runs through Georgetown. It is a unique and beloved piece of our neighborhood’s – and America’s – history. Georgetown Heritage is organizing our community to raise both public and private resources to restore, enliven, and interpret the Georgetown section of the C&O Canal.

Since its founding in 1965, the Foundation for the Preservation of Historic Georgetown, through its all-volunteer Georgetown resident Board of Trustees, has been dedicated to preserving and protecting open spaces and the historic character of buildings. Among its many achievements, the Foundation has contributed to both the preservation of Tudor Place Museum and the restoration of Mt. Zion – Female Union Band Society Cemetery.
